Tanzania Police Staff College

About

Tanzania Police Staff College-Kidatu is one of the five colleges owned by the Tanzania Police Force.

The college consists of two main areas: the Main Camp and the Union Camp. The Main Camp spans an area of 73.7 square hectares, while the Union Camp is currently owned by TANESCO (Tanzania Electric Supply Company), and the process of transferring ownership from TANESCO to the Police Force is underway. The Main Camp is used for various college activities, and some buildings in the Union Camp are utilized as residential quarters for police officers.

The college is located in the Kilombero District of the Morogoro Region, near the Kidatu Hydroelectric Power Station reservoir. It is situated within the Udzungwa Mountains National Park and is approximately 15 kilometers away from the small towns of Ruaha and Kidatu (Mkamba).

Formerly known as Tanesco Training Institution (TTI), the college was established in response to the vision of the former Inspector General of Police (IJP) at that time, Mr. Omary Mahita. He saw the need to establish a college to provide training for various high-ranking officers to keep up with the changing times. To fulfill his vision, he identified the current location and made an official request to the third government under the leadership of the late President Benjamin William Mkapa. On April 23, 2008, the request was officially approved, and the Tanzania Police Force took over the college. Initially, the college was handed over with seventy-six (76) buildings in the TTI area, which is now the Main Camp. However, those buildings were in need of repair. The process of renovating the buildings began after Mr. Said A. Mwema became the Inspector General of Police, and by December 2008, the first phase of renovating 22 buildings was completed.

The college was officially opened on February 5, 2009, by the retired Inspector General of Police, Mr. Said A. Mwema, and it started conducting various training programs.
